June 01, 2008 This February, teachers in the Los Angeles Unified School District elected a full slate of candidates to head the second largest teachers union in the country, UTLA. The winning coalition, United Action (UA), brings together longtime left activists with newer “social justice” educators, as well as militant trade unionists. Our platform challenges privatization, racist and class biased standardization of curriculum, and deteriorating school conditions, by building well-organized militant workplaces and coalitions with parents and community.
